Change of Command: 18 SDS says farewell to Lintker, welcomes Mugg

VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif., — The 18th Space Defense Squadron (18 SDS) held a Change of Command ceremony here, June 21, 2023.

Master Sgt. Jeffrey Grasso, a structures craftsman from the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron and a Space Launch Delta 30 first sergeant, stands with his Air Force Materiel Command 2022 NCO of the Year award. Grasso also earned the Space System Command 2022 NCO of the Year. These achievements led to his nomination for the Department of the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year program. Vandenberg Structures Craftsman Nominated for 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year Award

Master Sgt. Jeffrey Grasso's recent achievements demonstrate his dedication and leadership within the Air Force. As a structures craftsman from the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron and a Space Launch Delta 30 first sergeant, Grasso has earned notable recognition. In 2022, Grasso's accomplishments included being named the Air Force Materiel Command 2022 NCO of the Year and the Space System Command 2022 NCO of the Year. These achievements led to his nomination for the Lance P. Sijan Leadership Award and the Department of the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year program.

Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Buzz Aldrin was awarded the honorary rank of brigadier general as hundreds in attendance paid homage to him during his honorary promotion ceremony at Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., on May 5, 2023. Aldrin, a notable recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and three Air Medals, served in the ranks for more than 21 years, while breaking barriers for the nation’s advancements within space.
