Basic Allowance for Subsistence and Meals at No Cost Due to COVID-19

MEMORANDUM FOR ALL VANDENBERG AFB PERSONNEL (View Official Memo Here)

FROM: SLD 30/CC

SUBJECT: Basic Allowance for Subsistence and Meals at No Cost Due to COVID-19

1. The Department of Defense, Department of the Air Force, and Vandenberg Space Force Base continue to take measures to protect our Airmen and their families. During the COVID-19 national emergency, some uniformed airmen may be restricted in their movements by medical professionals or their Commanders and may have meals provided by the Government (MREs, flight line meals, DFAC, etc.). Effective immediately, I authorize Airmen under the conditions described below to receive Government-provided meals without charge and also receive Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) at the applicable standard monthly rate without automatic deduction.

2. Eligibility is limited to any uniformed service Airman who is not entitled to the meals portion of a per diem and who, in response to the spread of COVID-19, is restricted to his or her movements (for self-monitoring, to protect the health of our personnel and their families, or to assure essential mission function capability). Additionally, this authority only applies when, as a result of such restriction of movements, the Airman is housed in Government quarters (unaccompanied or leased, and including missile alert facilities) and subsisted through Government-provided meals (from a Government/appropriated fund dining facility or a Government-contracted vendor).

3. This policy will terminate when directed by the SLD 30/CC, in consultation with the Comptroller and 30th Medical Group. If you have questions, please contact Lt Col Ken Peters, 30 CPTS/CC, at kenneth.peters.2@us.af.mil.
