Vandenberg Launch Experience Unveils Celestial Ceiling at Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum

U.S. Space Force Col. Robert Long, Space Launch Delta 30 commander, and Jenn Malone, Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum executive director, conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony June 12, 2023, at the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum. Members of Vandenberg Space Force Base, the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, and the local community came together to commemorate the addition of a celestial ceiling to the interactive Vandenberg Launch Experience exhibit. The ceiling allows the perception of a view of space in conjunction with the launch exhibit screen to watch a satellite deploy its systems in space after release from a rocket. The ceiling can also be programmed for planetarium-like star projection to educate students on astronomy and different constellations. The Vandenberg Launch Experience has a mock mission control center, created from a repurposed United Launch Alliance launch console, and a replica of the Discovery space shuttle. Tom Stevens, SLD 30 executive director, also attended the ceremony.
