SLD 30 to Host Mission Overview for NASA’s SPHEREx Space Telescope

Space Launch Delta 30 will host a mission overview for NASA's SPHEREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer) space telescope. 

When: Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Where: The Crucible Innovation Lab at Vandenberg Space Force Base.

Dr. Denton Gibson from NASA Launch Services Program will be the SPHEREx Launch Director and will provide an introduction and overview of the launch campaign.

Dr. Jamie Bock, Principal Investigator for the mission from Caltech and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will present the mission's scientific objectives followed by a Q&A.

SPHEREx, scheduled to launch no earlier than Feb. 27, 2025, from Vandenberg SFB, will conduct the first large-scale survey of water ice and other key ingredients for life in the Milky Way galaxy. This two-year mission will map the entire sky, observing hundreds of millions of galaxies and celestial objects using wavelengths invisible to the human eye.

This event is open to individuals with current Vandenberg Space Force Base access credentials.
