2d Space Launch Squadron (2 SLS)

Background:

Vulcan Flight is responsible for certification, launch site mission assurance, and eventual fleet surveillance of United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket launches from the Western Range. The team provides technical risk reduction, working with the SSC enterprise guaranteeing mission success for the United States’ highest priority space missions.

Falcon Flight performs mission assurance and fleet surveillance for SpaceX’s western fleet of Falcon 9 rockets. They also oversee upgrades and maintenance of SpaceX’s launch pads and ground infrastructure.

2 SLS is also home to the Space Force’s only expeditionary space launch maintenance team, performing maintenance, transportation, handling and emplacement of small lift space flight hardware in support of the Rocket Systems Launch Program and other Department of Defense customers. They operate, maintain and continually train with space and missile systems support equipment to maintain proficiency and readiness. They also develop, review and, modify procedures required for new space lift capabilities and maintenance tasks to enable responsive launch solutions.

Mission Support Flight provides exceptional support services to the squadron to include Financial Management, Program Management, Security Programs and Training enabling our Guardians and Airmen to maintain readiness, efficiency and effectiveness in executing its missions. Engineers from the support flight also provide mission assurance to national security satellites launching from Vandenberg Space Force Base. Lastly, the support flight is also home to the squadron’s innovation team, responsible for developing grass-roots innovation benefiting the unit and beyond.

Mission Integration Flight consists of expert integrators and launch facility managers. They provide world class spaceport facility services and specialize in seamless integration and assurance of current and emerging space launch, landing, and test missions. The flight plays a key role as the critical interface between space payload customers, launch service providers, and the Western Range.
