Call if you can…text if you can’t; text-to-911 available at VAFB
- Text-to-911 is a Santa Barbara County-wide service that was made available to Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., on June 15, 2020. The service allows users to text 911 responders during an emergency when calling is not an option, such as an active shooter situation. Before it was made available to the installation, the service went through a week-long testing period where base members and first responders monitored and timed how long it took for the text messages to be received, verified the location accuracy, and ensured that the transfer capabilities were working as intended.
