CFC comes to a close

 The Combined Federal Campaign wrapped up their two month long fundraising effort, here, Dec. 9, 2016.

The CFC, established in 1961, is an annual program that allows federal government employees to make contributions to non-profit organizations. The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

“The CFC is an incredibly important opportunity, and often very personal, for both military and civilian to give back to the local community as well as many worthy causes,” said  Tech. Sgt. Elizabeth A. Schultz, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management NCOIC and unit CFC representative. “It's awesome to see people give to everything from animal shelters and coral reef conservation efforts to cancer research and finding a cure for autism. Additionally, many of the charities directly support military personnel as well as veterans. Even if people couldn't or didn't contribute this year, I think the CFC still raises awareness about the amazing amount of non-profit agencies making a difference in the lives of so many.”

The goal this year over the two months of fundraising was to have 100 percent contact across the base, giving everyone the opportunity to easily contribute should they so choose. In years past the campaign has raised approximately 100,000 dollars.

“We definitely met the 100 percent contact goal that we had, although we are still getting last minute pledge forms so we won’t have an accurate count of the money raised for another week,” said Master Sgt. Kimberly Sims, 30th Operations Support Squadron weather flight chief and installation project officer for CFC. “We had two additional fundraisers throughout the campaign. One was a crispy cream donut fundraiser and another was the ultimate frisbee competition. Both were met with immense support from the base-wide populace. Those two together raised an additional 1,000 dollars for the campaign.”  

The CFC itself is a combined focal point for 33,000 charities, it allows federal employees to sign up with minimal effort supporting any charity that is on the list. There are many local charities that are also signed up under the CFC.

“We had a phenomenal turnout this year, everyone put in the effort and made it awesome to be part of this great program,” said Sims. “We tried to make things as easy as possible for people to learn about the campaign, even if they couldn’t donate this year. I learned a lot from co-leading the base CFC and look forward to passing on some of the ideas we had to the next team that takes over next year.”
