The 614th Combat Training Squadron, a new unit assigned to the 614th Air Operations Center, was activated during a ceremony, here, Dec. 16.

The 614th CTS was created in order to implement and sustain enterprise-wide changes under the Space training Transformation and Space Mission Force constructs.

It will enable the 614th AOC, as the primary force provider to the Joint Space Operations Center, to organize, train and equip its Airman to effectively operate through a contested space environment.

“By standing up the 614th CTS we have recognized a fundamental shift in the space environment and our need to provide advanced training to meet and outpace present and future challenges,” said Col. Michael Manor, 614th AOC Commander and JSpOC Director.

“We can no longer view space as a unique domain and must therefore study and apply warfighting principals to our everyday operations,” Manor continued.  “The right person to lead that charge is Lt. Col. Nicole Petrucci.  She is a member of an elite cadre of space strategists; she is tough, driven and represents the next generation of space leaders.”

“I am honored for the privilege of leading this new unit,” said Lt. Col. Nicole Petrucci, commander, 614th CTS. “Today, we are the 614th CTS!”

Creating the new squadron involved zero cost and no changes to manpower authorizations as it is comprised of personnel previously assigned to the JSpOC’s Operations Support Division.

The 614th CTS is organized into seven flights: Training, Standardization and Evaluations, Weapons and Tactics, Exercises and Experiments, Systems Integration, Space Weather and Special Technical Operations Support.
