Vandenberg is set to reopen its newly renovated racquetball courts by early next week, in Building 9002 behind the 30th Force Support Squadron Fitness and Sports Center Annex.

In need of renovations from heavy usage, the two-month-long project replaced the light fixtures, placed new walls and laid a new floor improving upon the current Team V recreational location.

“We have so many things going on all the time, but just having decent racquetball courts for those who are interested, can get in there and have fun with it,” said Pamela Coffey, 30th FSS fitness center director. “They can play volleyball, racquetball and units can use it to warm up for physical training. They can use the actual court surface because it’s a nice court.”

Among its many practical uses, the Fitness and Sports center aims to provide more than just a newly renovated exercise area.

“When we do these project improvements, it immediately boosts the moral because even those who aren’t even interested in it are curious now,” said Coffey. “By remodeling the racquetball courts, it’s going to bring some excitement to the sport.”

The 30th FSS Fitness and Sports Center has racquetball equipment available for check out which is now another opportunity for Vandenberg to stay fit.

“It’s just another form of recreational fitness,” said Sal Rodriquez, 30th FSS intermural sports coordinator.  ”We have a lot to offer on this base and I think the racquetball courts provide a good form of exercise.”

The renovated racquetball courts are now open during normal hours of gym operation.

“I like to provide variety for our customers,” said Coffey. “I like them to have plenty of options and really no excuses not to stay fit or active.”
