New internet, phone, and television services near completion

Taking care of Airmen and their families has been an Air Force priority since its inception in 1947.

In accordance with this priority Vandenberg family homes are in the final stages of receiving upgraded internet, phone and TV service to enhance housing, this spring.

“The lack of high speed internet capability has been a real challenge for many years and was adversely impacting the residents’ quality of life; it was actually the number one quality of life issue,” said Ty McPhillips, Balfour Beatty Communities regional project director for the Air Force portfolio. “Through strong partnership and support from Vandenberg leadership, BBC and Inyo Networks, a solution was developed to resolve this issue.”

The solution provides faster internet speeds, new phone services, and new TV services to Vandenberg housing.

“The broadband fiber optic effort will go to every home on the installation,” said McPhillips. “The residents now have the opportunity to sign up for the one Gigabit internet service along with voice over IP Phone Service and Fastpath TV.”

In resolution, the much awaited completion is coming to an end.

“The planning and approval process began just over a year ago,” said McPhillips. “The network is scheduled to be complete this spring [April 2018]. Service is now available for the first phase of homes. The other two phases will quickly be online within the next month or so.”

Signing up for service only takes a few steps.

“Residents can sign up by going to Inyo Networks website or by calling them,” said Gretchen Swineheart, 30th Civil Engineering housing management chief. “The website is Vandenberg specific, so residents can find their exact address, fill out their information, and then request service.”
