Lompoc Valley
On Friday the Lompoc Certified Farmers Market is open. If you’re needing fresh seasonal produce, flowers to brighten your home or office, or maybe something freshly baked, come to the Old Town Lompoc at the corner of South I Street and West Ocean Avenue from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Attention parents and history buffs! If you or your family want to experience American West history and learn what it took to live and thrive as a mountain man, come to the La Purisma Mission on March 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See demonstrations on hide preparation and tanning, rope making, blacksmithing and more. Maybe you like your history a little older and fanciful? Or maybe you just want to go back to Elizabethan England. Well you’re in luck, the Renaissance Faire at River Park is open this weekend. Open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the park is filled with costumed vendors, entertainers, and guilds camped at the village. See shows, battle re-enactments and taste the festival food.
Don’t fret if you missed the Friday Lompoc Certified Farmers Market, you have another chance to stock up on fresh produce and other delectable foods. The Vandenberg Village Farmers Market is open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Burton Mesa Boulevard in Vandenberg Village.
Santa Maria Valley
Take the kids to the Santa Maria Discovery Museum this weekend. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. With 13,000 square feet of exhibits and programs it’s a place for children of all ages to learn and have fun.
Saturday, March 24, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Now is the time to grab your binoculars, hiking boots and head to Oso Flaco Lake Natural Area in Nipomo for the Oso Flaco Bird Walk. Late winter and early spring are the best times to observe migrating birds in their breeding plumage while they practice their songs. If interested, meet at the Oso Flaco Lake parking lot, just off of Highway 1, north of Guadalupe.

Easter is around the corner, and the Avila Beach Civic Association and the San Luis Yacht Club are holding their annual Easter Festival for all area children on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Avila Beach Community Center, 191 San Miguel Street. There are snacks for all. Children can color Easter eggs and make an Easter Basket at the craft table. Admission is free.
