VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg commanders welcome local community members into the Honorary Commanders Program at the annual Honorary Commanders Breakfast hosted at the Pacific Coast Club, here, Thursday, Jan. 31.
Community members are matched with unit commanders in a symbolic command to build social and professional connections with the local community.
“This program is vital in fostering an understanding between our local leaders and what we do here at Vandenberg,” said Col. Michael Hough, 30th Space Wing commander. “We are not only sharing ideas and experiences, we are also building important relationships with our communities.”
An honorary commander position provides community and business leaders the chance to get deeply involved with a particular unit and learn more about the unique missions and lives of Airmen. Honorary Commanders serve in the program for two years.
“The Honorary Commanders Program allows for an understanding of the mission, vision and priorities of Vandenberg,” said Bernie Federmann, 30th Security Forces Squadron honorary commander and senior pastor of the Lompoc Foursquare Church. “This program not only allows us to show our support for Vandenberg, but we are also able to gain insight into our military that would otherwise not be available.”
Through this program honorary commanders also learn more about local military activities, their impact on our economy, and various aspects of the national defense system.
