VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Veterans Day weekend offers the opportunity to honor and give thanks to those who answered their Nation’s call. Below are a few events that you can attend in the local area, many include members of Team V.
Lompoc Valley
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1717 will host its annual Veterans Day program Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Ocean Ave. The guest speaker will be Col. Anthony Mastalir, 30th Space Wing commander.
Santa Maria Valley
Allan Hancock College is hosting its annual Military Appreciation Day football game, Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. The game will be held at Allan Hancock’s stadium located at 800 S. College in Santa Maria. Admission is free for military members and their families.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2521 will host a Veterans Day ceremony Monday, Nov. 11 at the Santa Maria Cemetery, 1501 S. College Drive, at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Col. Michael Hunsberger, 30th Mission Support Group commander.
American Legion Post 534 will host a Veterans Day ceremony Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, located on the south end of Bradley Road by Stubblefield Road. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Stephen Whiting, 14th Air Force commander.
Solvang
In Solvang, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7139 will honor all veterans and their families with its annual Veterans Day program Monday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building on Mission Drive. The guest Speaker will be Col. Peter Flores, 14th Air Force director of space and cyber operations.
Pismo Beach
A Veterans Day ceremony will be hosted Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the Pismo Pier by the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce. The guest Speaker will be Lt. Col. Heidi Clark, 30th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron commander.
Guadalupe
The American Legion Post 371 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony Monday, Nov. 11 at the Guadalupe Cemetery at 4655 W. Main St., at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Chief Master Sgt. Zackeriah Stys, 30th Operations Group superintendent.
Santa Barbara and Beyond
Vandenberg AFB will be participating in the Santa Barbara Veterans Day Parade this Saturday, Nov. 9. The parade will start at noon at the intersection of E. Sola and State St. and will end at the Carriage and Western Art Museum of Santa Barbara at 129 Castillo St. This year’s patriotic parade will include WWII vehicles, re-enactors and heroes from all branches of the military, community groups, local businesses, marching bands and more.
The Santa Barbara Veterans Foundation will host a “Salute to Vets” event Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Carriage and Western Art Museum of Santa Barbara, 129 Castillo St., from 12 - 5 p.m. The entry fee is $20 and includes five raffle tickets. Lunch is $10, or a package including entry, lunch, and 10 raffle tickets can be purchased for $30. Veterans and children under 12 are free.
The Goleta Community Center will host a Veterans Day event Monday, Nov. 11 at 5679 Hollister Ave., at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Col. Kenneth Decker, 30th Operations Group deputy commander.
