Dormitory manager position available at Vandenberg
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg is currently in the process of advertising a special duty assignment for an eligible active-duty Airman who holds the rank of staff sergeant to be an Airman Dormitory Leader for the base.
Vandenberg's dormitory managers are recruiting and are tentatively slated to have the Airman Dormitory Leader position filled by early March.
"We are looking for a staff sergeant who is a good communicator, understands the importance of customer service and is willing and able to meet the emotional and physical demands of this job, as we often have to move heavy furniture in and out of the dorms," said Staff Sgt. Adam Fairbanks, a Vandenberg Airman Dormitory Leader.
The Airman Dormitory Leader position is a two year tour with an optional one year extension. The Airman who fills the position will manage the day-to-day operations of nine dormitory facilities (380 rooms with 436 occupants) worth $40 million. Additional responsibilities of Airman Dormitory Leaders include processing housing allowances for unoccupied personnel; identifying rooms and public areas for safety and health hazards to correct discrepancies; maintaining and inspecting dormitories and surrounding areas; and scheduling, briefing and supervising six unit bay orderlies on a weekly basis.
"I personally enjoy every aspect of this job and its challenges," said Fairbanks. "Not only is it important for noncommissioned officers to seek out special duties, it is good to show that you can strive outside of your normal element. Being an Airman Dormitory Leader has given me a better insight to our younger Airmen counterparts and how they act and live outside of their workplace. Understanding those who you supervise is very important and this position can assist in just that."
To be considered for the Airman Dormitory Leader position, an applicant must bring their last three enlisted performance reports, fitness test reports and a letter of recommendation from their unit's commander to the base's dormitory office (Building 13123).
