Members of Vandenberg's Commonwealth, a group of about nine members from the Canadian, Great Britain and Australian armed forces, is scheduled to host a golf tournament at the Marshallia Ranch Golf Club here beginning at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

Thirty-six teams have already registered for the upcoming four-man scramble golf tournament, leaving two team slots available for those people who are still interested in registering a team.

"Organizing this event is a small gesture of appreciation for making our personnel and their families feel welcome while thousands of miles away from their homeland," said Royal Canadian Air Force Maj. Cameron Lowdon, tournament organizer and Vandenberg's OUTCAN Space Operations deputy commanding officer. "This fun event will be a four-person scramble which accommodates all levels of golfers."

Since the tournament has been subsidized, compliments of the proactive fundraising efforts of Vandenberg's Commonwealth, participants will only have to pay their green fee costs.

The tournament costs include green fees, golf cart, prizes, goodie bags and a meal.

"We have had fabulous corporate support from the local businesses and they have been able to donate quite a lot of money for us, which is allowing us to subsidize the tournament," said Lowdon. "The goal of the organizers is to make this event affordable for the young Airmen who normally find these events just a little too expensive."

Tournament prices are categorized by rank, pay grade and membership as follow:

Cat. 1: (E-1 to E-4, GS 1-5) $18
Cat. 2: (E-5 to E-7, O-1 to O-2, GS 6-8) $25
Cat. 3: (E-8 to E-9, O-3 to O-4, GS 9-12) $28
Cat. 4: (O-5 and above, GS 13 and above) $30
Contractors: $45
Marshallia Ranch Golf Club members: $12

"This is just our way of saying thanks to Vandenberg Air Force Base and we intend to make this the most memorable on-base tournament of the year by making it affordable for all base personnel to participate while still offering some nice prizes for the day," Lowdon said.
