Scholarships offered through VSC
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Vandenberg Spouses Club Scholarship Program has returned.
The VSC is currently offering scholarship opportunities to Vandenberg's military spouses, high school seniors and undergraduate dependents.
"The VSC is both a social and charitable organization," said Celi Colón, the VSC Scholarship Program coordinator. "We are an all-ranks club and do our best to see to the needs of our members and the community at large through such things as our scholarship program."
Eligible candidates for the VSC scholarships must have applications completed and submitted by March 14. Applications are currently available at www.vandenbergspousesclub.org.
Military Spouse Applicants: The scholarship selection committee will consider an applicant's community service, special interests, honors, awards and employment. Spouses of active-duty members assigned to Vandenberg, and spouses of retired or deceased military are eligible.
Military Dependent Applicants: All graduating seniors in the class of 2011 and college-age dependents of active-duty military sponsors who are stationed at Vandenberg are eligible. High school seniors and college-age dependents of retired or deceased military members are eligible if the applicant resides in Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County. Financial need will not be a consideration for any applicant.
Scholarship amounts will vary and are based on the funds to be raised at VSC's Speakeasy Charity Auction, which is scheduled to be held at the Pacific Coast Club here at 5 p.m. March 19.
The VSC is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization devoted to serving military families at and around Vandenberg Air Force Base.
"The VSC is a forward-looking organization that strives to change and grow with the needs of today's Air Force spouse," Ms. Colón said. "One way we support the Air Force spouse is by giving him, or her, a place to connect with other spouses. In a typical month there is generally a large social function and several smaller mini-club meetings."
