Team V to host holiday tree lighting ceremony
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Vandenberg Company Grade Officer Council is scheduled to host a holiday tree (and menorah) lighting ceremony in front of Building 11777 at 4 p.m. Dec. 6.
For years, the Vandenberg community has come together to take part in the holiday tree lighting ceremony.
"We hope that this ceremony will bring the community out to enjoy themselves and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with family and friends," said Capt. Genelle Chapman, CGO Council member and event coordinator. "We hope that it will foster a sense of hope and fellowship during the holiday season."
During the ceremony, a Girl Scout outfit will lead in caroling as the holiday tree and menorah are being illuminated. Other ceremony happenings include an opportunity for people to meet and have a photo taken with Santa Claus; enjoy hot cocoa and other seasonal goodies; and Vandenberg leadership and the base chapel staff will be present to speak.
"Ceremonies like this are a great way for the Air Force and Vandenberg to showcase our premier installation to the local community," Captain Chapman said. "They also promote community involvement and offer a chance for everyone to come together for something that they all enjoy."
Everyone with base access is invited to the ceremony.
In order to make the ceremony a success, the CGO Council has spent several hours planning and coordinating with the 30th Space Wing, tenant units and local community members.
"The CGO Council is responsible for several community service and morale events during the year," said Captain Chapman. "We provide a forum for CGO-related discussions, professional development and networking."
