Air Force-level award winners recognized at Vandenberg
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Some of our own were recently recognized as Air Force-level winners for the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Awards Competition. This marks the 15th year of the DOD competition that recognizes outstanding performers for their heroism, dedication to duty, outstanding achievements and contributions to the DOD fire service. They'll now compete at the DOD level for their respective awards.

1. Military Fire Officer of the year nominee: Senior Master Sgt. Joseph P. Orona, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron
2. Department of Defense Fire Department of the year (Medium Size Category) nominee: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron
Note: The Chief Master Sgt. Ralph E. Sanborn award is an Air Force award companion to the DOD Fire Departments of the year. The 30th CES won the nomination for the Air Force this year.
