VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The search for a missing Vandenberg AFB firefighter who was last seen kayaking off the Santa Barbara County coast June 19 resumed June 23 at 8 a.m.
Vandenberg AFB is leading the search today over an area that runs from Gaviota State Beach and to points south. Resources include the Vandenberg Hot Shots units conducting ground searches, Vandenberg's water rescue teams conducting coastline searches, and volunteers from eight local city and county fire departments. Later today the Civil Air Patrol and Santa Barbara County helicopters are scheduled to conduct open ocean searches.
Searchers remain hopeful due to Fleming's 12 years of experience as a water rescue program manager. The incident commander will reevaluate ongoing search efforts throughout the day.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
