Vandenberg firefighter still missing

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The search continues for a missing Vandenberg AFB firefighter who was last seen kayaking off the Santa Barbara County Coast June 19.

The missing firefighter, Sean Fleming, is a water rescue team leader with the Vandenberg Fire Department.

Search and rescue teams located Fleming's kayak and backpack earlier today.

Vandenberg personnel are now in charge of ongoing search efforts. The search will continue until dusk June 22 and resume at daylight June 23.

"Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time," said Col. Richard Boltz, 30th Space Wing commander. "Vandenberg will continue the search and rescue effort to find Sean until all avenues are exhausted."
