Vandenberg youth gymnastics team wins big

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Vandenberg Youth Programs Jets gymnastics teams competed Feb. 6 and 7 at the Snowflake Classic in Camarillo, Calif.

Competing Feb. 6 against teams from southern California during the Team Legacy-hosted event, the Level 4 girls team set the stage for the Jets spring season, winning the First Place Team trophy.

The win was an unexpected achievement for such a young team, chronologically and in terms of experience. The girls are 6-10 years old, and less than a year ago none had any competitive experience.

Individual placements for the Level 4 girls competition Feb. 6 are:

Kianna Lujan, age 6 - 2nd place on vault and bars; 3rd place all around
Zoe Harrigan, age 8 - 2nd place on vault
Christina Bomberg, age 10 - 2nd place on vault
Olivia Brownsworth, age 9 - 3rd place on bars and floor
Ashley Arbegast, age 7 - 4th place on beam, 5th place all around
Katelyn Griffin, age 9 - 5th place on bars and beam
Samantha James, age 7 - 5th place on floor.

Individual placements for the Level 7 girls competition Feb. 7 are:

Ashley Castellenos, age 13 - 3rd place on bars, 3rd on beam and 4th all around
Brittany Bolusan, age 13 - 4th place on bars, 3rd on floor and 3rd all around
Genevieve Aguilar, age 14, 3rd on beam

Both Bolusan and Castellanos are now qualified to state championships.

The Level 4 and Level 7 girls teams also competed at the Chris Wallers Heart of a Champion competition Feb. 21 the University of California Los Angeles.

Individual placements for the Level 4 girls competition Feb. 21 are:

Ashley Arbegast - 1st on floor, 2nd on beam and 2nd all around
Kiana Lujan - 3rd place on floor and 4th all around
Katelynn Griffen - 3rd on beam and 3rd on floor
Olivia Brownsworth - 4th on floor and all around
Samantha James - 6th on vault and 8th all around
Zoe Harrigan - 9th on beam
Christina Bomberg - 11th on floor and all around

Individual placements for the Level 7 girls competition Feb. 21 are:

Genevieve Aguilar - 3rd on bars
Brittany Bolusan - 9th on floor
Ashely Castellenos - 10th on floor
