Chiefs' Group to host golf tournament
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Vandenberg Chiefs' Group is scheduled to host their annual Red, White and Blue Golf Tournament at noon June 19 at the Marshallia Ranch Golf Course here.
The annual golf tournament is a fundraising event in support of Vandenberg's enlisted Airmen.
"The Vandenberg Chiefs' Group is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide support to lower ranking Airmen of the United States Air Force," said (Ret.) Chief Master Sgt. Tim Coe, a Chiefs' Group member. "We accomplish this by providing educational scholarships; monetary and food donations to the needy; and financial aid to various enlisted functions and organizations."
The tournament is open to anyone who has access to Vandenberg's Marshallia Ranch Golf Course. The Chiefs' Group has made an effort to make the tournament affordable by basing the tournament fees on the fees already established by the golf course.
Participants who get a hole-in-one will be entered into a drawing to win a new car. The fundraiser will also feature prize-winning competitions such as the best ball, closest to the pin and longest drive.
"I enjoy the social interaction of these tournaments," said Chief Master Sgt. Dan Phelps, the 30th Medical Group superintendent. "It gives the opportunity for the base populace to socialize while also engaging in a little friendly competition."
The tournament is the Chiefs' Group's primary fundraiser for the year. Some of the programs the chiefs sponsor include 12 $100 scholarships each year to Community College of the Air Force graduates; the Airman Leadership School's John Levitow Awards; and the honor guard's Centurion Awards.
To register for the Red, White and Blue Tournament see any of Vandenberg's chief master sergeants or e-mail Mr. Tim Coe at tcoe100@hotmail.com.
