Safety office reminds Team V of headphone rules
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Due to recent questions about Vandenberg's rules on headphone use on base, the 30th Space Wing Safety office released a letter reminding Team V not to wear headphones in certain situations.
According to the letter, the use of portable headphones, earphones, cellular phones, MP3 players or other listening and entertainment devices (other than hearing aids) while walking, jogging, running, bicycling, skating or skateboarding on roadways is prohibited in accordance with DoD Instruction 6055.04, Para 3.c. and 30SWI 31-204, Para 4.21.
The use of headphones is authorized on designated running trails, track, and sidewalks. However, when a pedestrian comes to an intersection that crosses a roadway, he/she must remove the headphones. The use of headphones is also authorized during runs, when road traffic is blocked.
"Using listening devices impairs recognition of emergency signals, alarms, announcements, approaching vehicles, human speech and outside noise in general," said Bryan Eiler, the 30th Space Wing ground safety manager. "Non-compliance of this instruction could potentially result in a traffic citation being administered for the violation and the member's actions being reported to their commander and first sergeant for disciplinary purposes."
People with questions or concerns about these rules can contact Ground Safety at 606-8805.
