The Army & Air Force Exchange Service will participate in the "National Moment of Remembrance" at 3 p.m. Memorial Day.

The moment of remembrance was created as an act of national unity in which all Americans can honor those who died for the nation's freedom.

"Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices and services of the American military," said AAFES' chief of corporate communications Lt. Col. William Thurmond. "The 'Moment of Remembrance' is an opportunity for Americans to observe a brief period of respect and reflection for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

At 3 p.m. local time, an announcement will be made asking all shoppers at AAFES Base Exchanges and Post Exchanges worldwide to pause for one minute to honor those who have given their lives in the defense of the country.

The "National Moment of Remembrance," established by Congress, asks Americans wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on May 25 to pause in an act of national unity. The time of 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday.
