An NCO from the National Reconnaissance Office at Vandenberg was recently selected by the American Legion for the Spirit of Service award.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Young won the award at the NRO level and will now compete at Air Force Space Command.

The Spirit of Service award is presented to an enlisted member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Each service selects one winner based primarily on the level of volunteer community service the service member performs off-duty in a local community.

No stranger to serving the community, Sergeant Young spent 300 hours volunteering in various projects, including a Law Enforcement Torch Run and an American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
