Vandenberg hosts triathlon to peak base interest in fitness

Vandenberg's triathlon saw 90 Airmen, friends and family show up to participate here on Aug. 4, a turnout that nearly doubled from last year.

The race included a 400 meters swim at the base pool, a 5 kilometer race starting and ending at the parade grounds and a 20 kilometer bike ride around the base flight line.

In a contest of endurance, the team comprising Lindsay Buckalew, 30th Services Division, Nate Ogan, 30th Medical Operations Squadron, and Kent Yankee was able to out-do the rest of the pack. This is their second consecutive year to win the team event.

The overall winners were Jeff Falcone for the men at 57:04 and Naomi McDaniel for the women with 1:13:10.

Winners from each age bracket include Cecilia Ramos, women over 50; Rick Hummel, men over 50; Darlene Savage, women 40-49; William Thompson, men 40-49; Naomi McDaniel, women 30-39; Johnathan Mason, men 30-39;Christina Falcone, women 20-29; Jeff Falcone, men 20-29; Britney Mazany, women 15-19; and Kevin Weeks, men 15-19.
