Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif. -- The 30th Security Forces Squadron has issued an all-clear and lifted the shelter-in-place mandate at the East Vandenberg Solar Array and surrounding schools following reports of shots fired in the area.
At approximately 10 a.m. today, 30th SFS responded to reports of shots fired near Vandenberg Middle School and Manzanita Charter School. In collaboration with local law enforcement, a thorough sweep of the area was conducted, and it has been deemed safe. There are no reported injuries.
30th SFS personnel will continue to patrol the area to ensure the ongoing safety of students and faculty. They will remain on scene to support school staff with traffic flow for student pick up.
Additionally, Space Launch Delta 30 is currently conducting an Emergency Response Exercise, which included an active shooter scenario. However, this scenario was conducted in a different area of the base and is unrelated to today's incident.
"The safety of our community remains our highest priority," said Col. Mark Shoemaker, Space Launch Delta 30 commander. "These moments highlight the importance of our rigorous training and our strong connection with local law enforcement. It ensures that when we are called to action, we can respond swiftly and effectively."
In light of the “all-clear,” Space Launch Delta 30 will continue the exercise for the remainder of today and tomorrow, Nov. 20.
