Vandenberg Space Force Base collaborates with members of Point Blue Conservation Science, the Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network, and International Bird Rescue to release four rehabilitated Pigeon Guillemots on VSFB's north base, Aug. 6 2025.

The birds were rescued by Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network after being found contaminated with oil and treated by International Bird Rescue and cleared for return to their coastal habitat as part of a multi-agency effort to support seabird populations.

The Department of the Air Force has been monitoring special status plant and wildlife species at Vandenberg for several decades with launch-specific monitoring occurring since the early 1980’s.

Vandenberg has a dedicated environmental team of more than 40 personnel continuing that monitoring process and surveying natural resource resilience.
