VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg Space Force Base is taking its community speaker series “Mission Update" on the road for its third iteration on Wednesday, April 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building at 941 Walnut Ave in Carpinteria, Calif.
This event is part of a broad effort to engage directly with local communities, provide updates on Vandenberg’s mission, and address questions about sonic booms and their impacts. The first such event was hosted in Lompoc, Calif., on Feb. 20, followed by a second event in Santa Barbara, Calif., on March 17. The fourth and final speaking event in this series is scheduled to occur in Ojai, Calif., on May 19.
“Mission Update” will feature Col. James T. Horne III, Commander of Space Launch Delta 30, who will provide insights into Vandenberg’s operations and its critical role in national defense, and Dr. Kent Gee, Professor of Physics and Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Brigham Young University.
"Vandenberg Space Force Base is proud to be a vital part of the Central Coast community,” Col. Horne said. “This speaker series is an opportunity to share updates on our mission, address community concerns, and strengthen the partnership we have with our neighbors. We look forward to an open and productive dialogue."
Gee will present his initial findings and ongoing efforts as lead researcher for the ECOBOOM program, which is a study of rocket launch ascent acoustics and sonic boom effects on communities near Vandenberg Space Force Base.
