The U.S. Space Force at Vandenberg Space Force Base has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to identify industry launch service providers interested in obtaining a real property use agreement to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain small or medium vertical space launch capabilities to provide space launch services to the Department of War, non-DoW Federal, and other commercial entities at an area identified as Space Launch Complex-9 (SLC-9).

Responses from interested launch service providers are due within 30 days of the RFI, which can be found here: https://sam.gov/workspace/contract/opp/2395581fce1f4efdb381f8be4e518ff6/view

“The further development of small and medium launch capabilities at VSFB is a strategic priority, enhancing our resilience and agility in space operations,” said Col. James T. Horne III, Space Launch Delta 30 commander. “This RFI represents a significant opportunity for industry leaders to contribute to the growth of the U.S. space launch sector while supporting critical national security objectives.”

This initiative is a strategic priority for the U.S. Space Force, designed to support the expansion of the domestic space launch industry, enhance national security, and enable the rapid deployment of small to medium-class LC-9 satellites for space operations.

Located in the northern region of VSFB’s South Base area, SLC-9 has been identified as a prime location uniquely suited for the development and execution of launch operations due to its proximity to established infrastructure and accessibility.

This project is expected to create opportunities for innovation, stimulate local economic growth, and bring new jobs to the region.
