Vandenberg is scheduled to host a Wing Space Walk, here, May 8.

The Space Walk is an open house for team members and their families and is an opportunity for them to see the wing's unique mission, people, facilities and equipment.

Col. Keith Balts, 30th Space Wing commander, will have two mission briefs at the base theater to kick off the event.

"This is a rare opportunity for Team Vandenberg members and their families to get a first-hand look at what most people only get to see in the movies," said Maj. Waylon Mitchell, 30th Range Management Squadron director of operations.  "All of the assets being showcased by 30th Operations Group during the Space Walk are critical to a successful day of launch operations."

The 30th Launch Group, 30th OG and the 30th Mission Support Group will be hosting demonstrations and tours at various locations to showcase the Delta II launch program, a weather balloon and much more mission essential equipment. The 30th MSG demo will be located at the parade grounds, the 30th LCG demo will be at Space Launch Complex-2 and the 30th OG demo will be at the Western Range Operations Control Center.

"One of our commander's priorities is connecting Airmen and their families to the mission," said Maj. Christopher Ryder, 30th Operations Support Squadron director of operations. "This is a way for the Airmen to connect with other Airmen on base, and see the mission that they do and parts of the mission that they would not see on a day-to-day basis."

Attendance is not mandatory. Demonstrations will be simultaneously open to be visited at the guests' convenience.

The demonstrations will occur at 1 p.m. through 4:30 p.m., and mission briefs will begin at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact Maj. Ryder at 606-0863.
