Golf Course and Aquatics P4 MOU signed
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Col. Keith Balts, 30th Space Wing commander, and Patrick Wiemiller, City of Lompoc administrator, signed a memorandum of understanding at Marshallia Ranch Golf Course to create an agreement between the City of Lompoc's recreation division and U.S. Air Force representatives for golf course discounts and aquatic services Dec. 17.
The MOU established discount rates for the City of Lompoc residents at the Marshallia Ranch Golf Course and provided vouchers for City's Aquatics Center to Department of Defense cardholders.
The 30th Force Support Squadron implemented the "Public-Public and Public-Private Partnerships" or P4 program which are opportunities and agreements to share resources and responsibilities among government and private entities to reach common goals or provide mutual support.
"About a year ago, we came together to find out what the City of Lompoc had that we can potentially gain access to and what the base had that they could potentially use," said Janice Hollen, 30th Force Support Squadron deputy commander. "What we decided for the MOU was for Lompoc residents to receive a discounted rate for playing golf. We also worked with the Lompoc Aquatics Center so that Vandenberg families could go the Lompoc Aquatic Center and receive a discount."
To receive the Mashallia Ranch Golf Course discount, Lompoc residents will need to acquire a resident card at the Lompoc Recreation Center which will function as a discount card at the course.
"Since Lompoc does not have a golf course within its city limits, we were looking at ways to benefit the Air Force Non-appropriated Funds and the City of Lompoc," said Jeremy Smith, Marshallia Ranch Golf Course director. "The course is offering activities such as golf lessons and games at lowered rates across the board for both military and civilians."
Due to the on-base swimming pool only being open during the summer time, the 30th FSS specialists coordinated with the Lompoc Aquatics Center to obtain discounts for military families. To acquire discounts, families can pick up free splash cards at Vandenberg Information, Tickets and Travel to waive the $25 aquatics center registration fee.
"To officially seal the deal, we went through Lompoc and Air Force legal systems, and got our wing commander and Lompoc's city administrator to come together and sign this MOU to form a partnership," said Hollen. "The intent is to work together to stretch our resources to help each other out and bring in new customers to our respective facilities. "
