Vandenberg's Santa Maria gate will be under construction for security updates June 16 through July 30, requiring lane closures.

Though the gate will still be open, there will be no outbound traffic allowed past Lake Canyon Road and the inbound and outbound lanes will rotate being closed during two phases of construction so as not to impede timeliness.

"During the first phase, there will be no outbound traffic at the Santa Maria Gate," said Jordan Hampton, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron project manager. "Beginning at Juniper Street the lane will be closed down so, Vandenberg patrons will have to use Utah Gate for outbound traffic. Conversely, the inbound lane will be closed from June 16 through June 23."

Vandenberg leadership has put measures into place to alleviate traffic congestions that may be caused by the closures.

"There will be detour signs posted in key areas throughout base to direct the flow of traffic," Hampton said. "Also, there will be a 'No left turn' sign for traffic on Juniper Street, and Utah Gate will be open 24-hours a day."

Toward the end of the construction period, testing of the new security mechanisms installed will begin and Team V members should be prepared for longer wait times at the gate.

"Santa Maria Gate inbound traffic will be allowed as usual throughout the June 16 to July 30 construction period but personnel should be safety-conscious and prepared for slower speed, potential traffic delays and re-routing of traffic through the work zone on California Boulevard."
