VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 30th Space Communications Squadron passed its recent annual Command Cyber Readiness Inspection, April 18 through 25, with an overall rating of Excellent.
Throughout the rigorous assessment window, inspectors examined the installation’s classified and unclassified computer networks to validate security compliance across Vandenberg. The uncommonness of Team V’s final score alone was a unique accomplishment.
“The CCRI was graded and the base received an overall grade for NIPRNet and SIPRNet architectures,” said Lt. Col. Blake Jeffries, 30th SCS commander. “We received an 80.4 percent for SIPRNet which was an excellent rating, and then an 84 percent for NIPRNet which was also an excellent rating. An excellent rating is an incredibly difficult accomplishment to achieve. Within the last 20 inspections, there were only five bases that managed to get an excellent rating in both NIPRNet and SIPRNet and Vandenberg was one of them.”
While a 30th SCS assessment, a good portion of the CCRI rests on the shoulders of all Team V personnel.
“It was a collaborative effort of every unit on this base to make it happen,” said Lt. Col. Kevin Johnson, 30th Mission Support Group deputy commander. “Everyone pitched in and did their part to ensure the overall success of the base in this inspection. They knocked it out of the park.”
In a continuously expanding cyber world, the members of the 30th SCS are fully prepared for whatever challenges future inspections have in store.
“The CCRI is a juggernaut of an inspection,” said Jeffries. “I don’t think the inspections will ever be similar year to year. The criteria is evolving and changing and that makes sense because cyber never stops evolving, so we’ll need to stay tuned with the Defense Information System Agency inspectors and DISA in general, to see how they’re progressing with what they want to protect for cyber and how they want to protect it. As long as we keep tabs on that, I think we’ll be able to maintain and stay compliant.”
