I asked the Lord to say, something to end my fears. But all I heard was death, and cries from families, I struggled for my breath, knowing others had not my ease. I said a prayer that day, as I shook my head with grief. As the blue skies turned to gray, I had filled with disbelief. What once had stood so proud, as a tower for all to see, Was then amidst the ground, the remains of fallen debris. I said a prayer that day, as I wiped the ashes from my brow. I vowed that I would never stray, if the Lord could fix this somehow. How would we get past this one? How would we keep vengeance from our hearts? Would we rise in unison, or would we rise apart? I said a prayer that day, as I watched the rescuers arrive. A trembling voice behind me said, "Thank God I'm still alive." As the elements and fuels ignited, we stood in great suspense. As Americans, we'd never seen such horrendous violence. I said a prayer that day, as a body was pulled from the rubble. And as I stared in dismay, I knew America was in trouble. Who would take responsibility for such an act of terror? Was God looking down upon us, trying to answer every prayer? I said a prayer today, as I recalled nine years before. I asked God for his forgiveness, for the events that started a war. I thanked our fallen soldiers, who had paid the ultimate debt, As I heard God's voice above me say, "I forgive, but shall never forget." I said a prayer today, with a knee upon Ground Zero.
