Recreation, leisure are keys to readiness

Spring has arrived and with it come thoughts of additional outdoor activities like barbecues, picnics, sporting events and all of the activities we associate with a blossoming springtime. We are excited about the idea of taking additional time off to relieve the everyday stressors as we enjoy some much-needed recreation and leisure time.

We need to take this time to help rejuvenate and reinvigorate ourselves while also remembering to give our families the time they need. We frequently find ourselves with our nose to the grindstone, working hard, and we can quickly find ourselves burnt out if we don't take time out to rest, relax and reconnect. The military life is a demanding one, and there is a reason why we are given 30 days of leave each year ... so take it! We need this time to make sure we are ready when our nation calls and 100 percent there when we are needed.

You might say, "I never have the time with all that is going on in my life." I have to say, "Make the time!" Actually plan some time into your schedule ... this is the only way to be refreshed and revitalized while also making sure we keep our relationships at home strong, healthy and happy. So make a plan. Maybe you can go on a picnic or little trip soon? Take the opportunity to go on a side trip to a local beach or into the wine country ... something out of the ordinary where you and your friends or family can get away to enjoy some time together. It will pay huge dividends in helping you relax, strengthening those bonds for when life doesn't seem as rosy, and helping you grow individually as well. The same need exists for our single members as well ... to build those relationships with our friends and coworkers as we build our circle of friends and support network. All of us must take time out, so what are your plans?
Make some today so that time doesn't slip by and you find yourself in the summer regretting the missed opportunities this spring held!
