Vigilance prevents property crime Published May 7, 2009 By Investigator Crystal Silva 30th Security Forces Squadron VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 30th Security Forces Squadron has recently seen a spike in vandalism, thefts and unlawful entries committed throughout the Vandenberg community. To prevent incidents of this nature, it is important for all building custodians to ensure they are inspecting and securing their respective areas. Along with the building custodians, everyone is responsible for ensuring their windows and doors are secured when not in use. It is recommended building custodians maintain a log to track individuals who have key access to all storage areas and buildings. All Vandenberg residents are reminded to secure sliding doors, windows, lockers and doors to prevent unauthorized personnel from gaining access. It is highly recommended to secure your sliding doors even if you have pets. Security forces have recently responded to two incidents where the victims' residences were vandalized and their property was stolen. Members of the security forces are asking everyone to do their part and report anything deemed as suspicious. Summer is quickly approaching, which should be a time for relaxation and vacations. Remember, if you travel for an extended period of time, ensure you ask someone you trust to keep an eye on your residence and vehicles. If you believe you have been a victim of vandalism, theft or unlawful entry, call the 30th SFS law enforcement desk immediately at 606-3911 to file a report. Furthermore, if you have information regarding a crime, call the Crime Stop Hotline at 606-2677. This information is incredibly useful, and the caller can remain completely anonymous.
