Do not become weary Published Aug. 28, 2007 By Lt. Col. Christina Anderson 30th Space Communications Squadron commander VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- There's a famous quote in the New Testament of the Bible which states, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9. This quote is a great reminder to all of us that, as we approach Labor Day and the end of the 101 Critical Days of Summer, we should not grow weary in our labor or in our safety practices. By staying the course, we will continue to do great things for our Air Force and United States. This Labor Day makes us reflect on everything we've done so far this year, and what we have yet to accomplish. The first nine months of 2007 at Vandenberg have proved challenging, ever dynamic, and quite successful. Among the challenges, we've seen a transition to the new civilian NSPS system and the need to accomplish the mission despite the dramatic decrease in resources, both personnel and fiscal.Reflective of the constantly changing Air Force environment, we've had to accommodate to numerous changes, from financial and personnel services transformation to the impact of decreased personnel on the nature and level of support across the base. Despite such turbulent times, we've been incredibly successful with several launches under our belt, the highest deployment ops tempo seen to date, and dramatic changes to our systems and infrastructure, just to name a few. Looking forward, we have much work ahead of us and thus cannot become weary. With more launches over the coming months and getting prepared for the upcoming June higher headquarters inspection, we will have much work on our proverbial plate. As always we will handle it with the professionalism, drive, and excellence expected of Team V. This Labor Day also marks the end of this year's 101 Critical Days of Summer Safety Campaign. Despite much vigilance, this year has not been as successful as some recent past years for our Air Force Team overall. But Team Vandenberg continues to do well in minimizing mishaps and adhering to risk management principles and strong safety practices. However, one area of concern for Team V is the amount of DUIs so far this year. Unfortunately, the trend is pointing to more DUIs this year than last and more recent years. One DUI is unacceptable and our installation commander has challenged us to accept no more; please do your part to ensure you do not contribute to this negative behavior. Do not become weary in your good safety practices...continue to be vigilant because safety is paramount to our continued mission success. So, with all our past, present and future hard work and safety successes in mind, relax and continue to be safe during this long Labor Day weekend. You deserve it...and it will help re-energize and re-focus you for the coming challenges ahead!
