AFSPC commander sends Memorial Day message Published May 22, 2007 By Gen. Kevin Chilton Air Force Space Command commander PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- As flags wave gracefully on this upcoming Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave Americans who have fallen while fighting our Nation's wars and battles. We pause to honor the patriots--Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen--who answered their nation's call so that we all may live free. This year's Memorial Day comes again at a time when our nation is at war and reminds us of the personal sacrifices of our fellow comrades. Like the brave warriors before them, those who have recently fallen in combat served valiantly to secure the freedoms of those who do not know liberty. As we pay tribute to their service, we also express sincere gratitude to the families and loved ones who mourn their absence and praise their accomplishments. If possible, take time out of your Memorial Day activities to pause with the Nation for a National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. While Memorial Day is known as a time of remembrance, it is also a time for us in uniform to reaffirm our own commitment of selfless service. By doing so, we not only honor the memory of those before us, but also vow to carry on the legacy of excellence in the world's best military force. Cathy and I proudly join you and the entire Air Force Space Command team in a weekend of remembrance. Have a great and safe holiday weekend!
