The Vandenberg 30th Force Support Squadron will host a 3-on-3 paintball tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at the outdoor recreation paintball field.

The tournament is the first sponsored by 30th FSS since the field opened in 2005.

The teams will battle head-to-head in bracket play. The tournament will be refereed like a professional paintball tournament, but it won't be as serious.

"Teams will be out here to have fun," said Robert Bumpass, the outdoor recreation program manager. "Our referees will be checking everybody's marker to ensure that paintballs are flying at a safe speed. "

Outdoor recreation will have equipment that people can rent for $27 to play in the tournament, but they will not have pressurized air.

"We will have CO2, but the participants will have to supply their own pressurized air if that is what their marker requires," Mr. Bumpass said.

Participants will be required to pay a $6 registration fee as well as buy paintballs from outdoor recreation at $11 per 500 balls.

The fun won't stop after the trophy is presented to the first place team, as people will be able to participate in free play until the close of the field at 3 p.m.
