Vandenberg fitness center employees pride themselves in ensuring military members' fitness success and supporting the overall mission.

Seven days a week the staff opens up the facility and makes sure equipment is safe, clean, and ready to use. From the early risers to the late night gym goers, the staff strives to make everyone's experience welcoming.

"It's really important to me that we greet our customers and that we are available for them in any way they need us to be," said Pamela Coffey, 30th Force Support Squadron fitness center director. "Whether it's a good morning or a wave on the way out, we like to show acknowledgement to our members, especially to active duty because they sacrifice a lot. So when they come here we need to give them a positive experience."

Both the main gym and annex consists of 16 staff members, half of which are fitness specialists there to help meet the fitness goals of military members and their families. For those who prefer one-on-one training and just need extra motivation personal fitness trainers are also available.

"It makes me happy knowing I can be a part of boosting base morale," said Salvador Rodriguez, 30th FSS sports director. "If they are able to come here and get some type of happiness, I think it helps them with whatever they are doing at work and in turn, have a better day in general."

A variety of programs are available to help Airmen stay fit. Some of the programs offered include: group fitness classes, fun-runs, weight loss incentive programs, introductions to weight room classes and intramural sports.

"The fitness center gives the service members a place to come and blow off some steam, play sports, or just stay fit," said Coffey. "I don't think the mission would be successful without us. You would have more sick days and people not fit to perform their mission."

The fitness center staff play an important role in keeping Air Force members mission ready by maximizing their health, fitness, and wellness goals while providing the highest level of customer safety and service.
