Housekeepers employed with the recently renovated lodging office have aimed for decades to make a visitor's stay as comfortable and refreshing as possible.

Base personnel may not know that the housekeepers often work late hours to create a welcoming experience for guests. With 226 units and 57,664 guests per year, this is not an easy task.

"It takes more than what meets the eye to create a welcoming experience," said Susan Mohammed, 30th Force Support Squadron custodial supervisor. "From fresh, clean linens to friendly smiles throughout the day, lodging is a 24-hour operation. We have 28 housekeepers working around the clock to meet our mission."

Since lodging personnel are usually the first people that newcomers and visitors see, it's vital to make lasting first impressions.

"Our housekeepers are some of the most outstanding out there," said Henry Infante, Vandenberg Lodging assistant manager. "They receive 95 to 100 percent satisfaction rates from guests submitting comment cards and surveys online. This clearly indicates that they are doing an outstanding job."

Keeping a balance between a demanding job and enjoying job satisfaction, the housekeeping crew participates in "perfect room" and "employee star of the month" award programs.

"I really enjoy helping others because it makes me a better person," said Elizabeth Quintero, 30 FSS custodial leader. "To us, customer service is the number one priority."

The housekeeping team works hard to live up to the high standards of the Air Force and supporting the overall mission.

"My team provides quality guest rooms and excellent customer service," said Mohammed. "I feel we are the best housekeeping team in the Air Force."

From a new reception center to outstanding housekeepers, Vandenberg AFB Lodging strives to leave a lasting memory with its guests.
