Team V participates in first time mass inoculation

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – After a quick medical records screening, Team V members proceed to the inoculation area at the Point of Distribution (POD) in the Installation Deployment Readiness Cell here Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. Active duty Airmen reported to the POD in an exercise simulating mass immunization against anthrax, and base authorities used the opportunity to distribute this year’s real world influenza vaccine. The POD distributed Skittles candy representing the anthrax prophylaxis to over 1,900 Airmen and then vaccinated over 1,500 Airmen for influenza, raising the wing’s flu vaccination rate to over 90%. The purpose of the exercise was toevaluate the wing’s response to a public health emergency by testing the 30th Medical Group’s ability to stand up a POD and rapidly distribute countermeasures. Mass inoculation of this scale was a first for Vandenberg Air Force Base. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Lael Huss)
