General Helms tours Vandenberg
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Lt. Gen. Susan Helms, Joint Functional Component Command for Space and 14th Air Force commander, learns about Trooper and Snickers, two of the horses in Vandenberg’s mounted horse unit during her immersion tour Tuesday, May 17, 2011. The mounted patrol, the only one of its kind in the Air Force, provides numerous vital roles for base operations to include search and rescue; patrols into base territory that all terrain vehicles cannot access; consequence management for protests; pre-launch sweeps; and beach patrols. The horses are also trained in criminal pursuit and attainment. (U.S. Air Force photo/Jerry E. Clemens, Jr.)
