30th WSA sounds retreat
VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – Staff Sgt. Jennifer Vahalik, 30th Space Wing chaplains assistant, presents the folded flag during a retreat ceremony at the headquarters flagpole here Wednesday, July 31, 2013. The retreat ceremony became prominent after the Revolutionary War when the American Army would sound “retreat” at sunset every night. The call now announces the end of the duty day when the U.S. flag is lowered and retired for the evening. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Lael Huss)
