Vandenberg Fire Department Conducts Prescribed Burns

Emilio Jimenez, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, utilizes a fire drip torch to ignite a trail of scrub brush during a prescribed burn at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., June 25, 2024. Vandenberg Fire Department conducted a prescribed burn of 100 acres of grassland and coastal sage scrub. The series of small, controlled fires were carried out for training purposes, with coordination from multiple agencies including Santa Barbara County Fire Department and various Air Pollution Control Districts, ensuring meteorological conditions were favorable to minimize smoke impact on nearby communities and prevent the spread of wildfires.
