Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink learns more about the Space Development Agency’s Tranche 1 satellites at a satellite processing facility at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., Aug. 28, 2025. The launch of Tranche 1, which is slated to take place no earlier than Sept. 10, will carry the first 21 of 154 Tranche 1 satellites to create a mesh network of optically-connected satellites focused on tactical data delivery to the warfighter at “the edge,” tracking and targeting for advanced missile threats, and beyond-line-of-sight targeting for time sensitive or mobile targets.
