Daye Hoffman, NASA Launch Service Program’s organizational director at Vandenberg, gives a tour to the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce, inside NASA’s LSP Clean Room at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., March 6, 2026. Hoffman explained that a clean room is a controlled environment. NASA's clean rooms are critical for assembling spacecraft and instruments – preventing contamination from dust, hair and oil that could cause malfunctions in delicate space operations technology. Vandenberg’s location provides efficient access to polar orbit, enabling NASA to conduct missions that study Earth’s oceans. (U.S. Space Force photo by Airman 1st Class Ian Hawkes)
