Hoffman stood near a section of concrete salvaged from the counterweight of the Mobile Service Tower erected by NASA at Space Launch Complex 2 in 1978. NASA used SLC-2 for their payloads that supported scientific exploration missions, including the world’s first polar orbiting satellite, Discoverer 1, in 1959.
