U.S. Space Force Lt. Col. Ralph Salazar, 2d Range Operations Squadron commander, second from left, and U.S. Air Force Lt. Col Seth Poulsen, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron commander, third from left, alongside other 2 ROPS Mobile Optics team members, perform the first sod turn with their shovels during a facility groundbreaking ceremony at Santa Ynez peak, Calif., April 1, 2026. The ceremony marked the official beginning of construction of a secure storage facility for high-power telescopes and tracking systems used by the 2 ROPS Mobile Optics team . The equipment is vital to capturing imagery of launch and test missions from Vandenberg Space Force Base. This new facility will enable the Mobile Optics team to keep their equipment fully-assembled and rapidly deployable, allowing more effective, responsive and safer operations.
